The Mission

“Hobo,” “tramp,” “vagrant” and “transient” are pejorative names belonging to the unfortunate people who are suffering through homelessness. This has been a continued problem across the United States and the truth is there are numerous reasons why the homeless population hasn’t been eliminated over the years. There are situations of chronic homelessness and many who find themselves in a one-time situation that left their world upside down. With the ever-growing population and a significant amount of them being children this is an issue that needs to be addressed. Attempts have been made to resolve this issue so why haven’t they worked? With such a wide range of matters causing the problem, maybe the approach in solving the problem is where we have failed. As the reported crimes rise, the fear of an unsafe neighborhood increases, and the failure of projected plans unfold something must be done for those who have been unable to help themselves.

My Mission –

Coming back home from the military I have experienced many struggles that I never thought I would face. I had a stable job, a full proof plan and I assured the military I had a solid support system before I was medically separated, but things didn’t go according to plan. I came home and the ones I use to call my friends had more priorities than seeing me. My savings had quickly drained, as the ones I once relied on, turned their backs on me in their own time of troubles. I had never felt so alone, and I can only imagine those veterans worse off than myself getting out and feeling that same isolation. Knowing that over 23,000 veterans took advantage of the Denver shelters last year, I felt compelled to make it known the plans so far to eliminate homelessness isn’t working and to begin to educate myself and others to find the underlying issue causing homelessness.
